In 1973 , as part of a program of renovation and expansion , our firm purchased “ La Vicaria “, a country estate located some 1O kilometers southwest of Arcos de la Frontera , Cádiz, with a wine tradition dating back to the year 1767 , as it can be verified in documents held in the local Public Record Office.

The soil of “ La Vicaria “ , like that of Jerez , is the famous
“ tierra albariza “ , white from the high lime content. The new grapes , Cabernet Sauvignon , Tempranillo and Riesling take up about 40 per cent the land , the remaining 60 per cent is almost exclusively Palomino.

It was in this exceptional location that our Company began a pioneering production of table wines whitin the sherry production area . This calculate decision was initially viewed with a lot of curiosity and not a little scepticism in the area , but the Company's success has already encouraged others to follow .
Our first success came with " Tierra Blanca " , a pioneering young white which was marketed in 1981.
Following this , our “ Viña Lucia “ red wine was launched. This is matured in American oak casks for two years. Production is limited , but expansion of both the Cabernet and Tempranillo grapes is under way at “La Vicaria“. The intention is not merely to increase quantity , as we are also commited to further experimentation and refinement in the search for quality.
